Not the wrist ones, they are to touchy, and you have to keep your arm straight and level with your heart. Just get a manual pump armband type. They are acurate enough. Just take a few readings and average the totals.

I went in to my docs office and they told me it was pretty high..
I bought a home blood pressure monitoring system and sometimes It’s normal, and sometimes it’s high. Just borderline. So i don’t know if I really do have high blood pressure or not..
Im kinda scared, what should I do about this? The doctor who measured my pressure was just my high risk doctor, but i haven’t seen my main doctor. They haven’t called me back.
Help?
Had High BP all through first pregnancy. I did just fine. They did end up inducing me with my first because of a very high reading, but once i laid down and rested it went to normal, and during the birth I had normal to low BP. Baby was fine, I was fine and BP went back to normal after baby. Now with #2 I get a mix of high and low readings. They have not put me back on the high risk list YET, though if I continue to get high readings they will. I am trying to control it with exercise and diet. Though I do have my occasional cup of coffee and some naughty snacks.
They just dont want you to have constant high pressure reading, they then worry about eclampsia and stroke. Thats where the worry comes in. Take it easy, do what you can to reduce it, Reduce stress too thats another reason for High BP. Keep up with your doctors and really monitor it well. You will likely be fine.

I am wondering what the normal blood pressure for an year old boy is? Can I take it with an adult blood pressure machine?
Thanks!
Around 90-100 over 50-60. It is going to vary a bit depending on height.
At eight years old you can maybe take it with an adult machine but I highly doubt the child’s arm would be big enough around to
Check out this chart I found online

I am a doctor and have traditionally worked with BP instruments that measure BP from arm and not from wrist. If anyone has worked on these new wrist based BP monitors, then please tell me if they are accurate and reliable or not. If yes, what principle do they use for measurement?
The funda for measuring it is not in-line with heart but the arm is supposed to be at the level of the heart.
SO the person who does high maths can take a jump. Pressure, mind you, varies with height
I wanted to know if Karatkoff’s principle is applicable on wrist Sphygs or not coz i am not sure if it does obliterate radial artery completely and even if it does, ulnar artery will rush in more blood because it is un-obliterable.
They are not as accurate. The farther you get from the center of the body, the less accurate they become. The reading can actually be slightly lower than the arm. Same goes for the finger monitors. They are less accurate than the wrist which are even less accurate than the arm. We tested this out in class. Get an arm reading then 15min later get a wrist reading. Its only by about 2-3mmHg so I guess it depends how accurate you want to be.

I just got a new home blood pressure monitor called Omron HM780, supposedly accurate. Now when I go to the store my readings are between 130/85 to 148/95 and when I get home my readings are between 115/70 to 132/85 WHAT SHOULD I TRUST?
Make sure you are relaxed every time before you take it.

ive been feeling really dizzy for a couple of days, and i borrowed my daughters blood pressure machine and i was higher than usual, when i stand up i get so dizzy to the point im wobbly. i have an appointment to get my lab results tomorrow, but is there anything i can do till then, why is it doing this? i have never had high blood pressure?
usually your blood pressure drops when you stand up. Dizziness is a symptom of low blood pressure, not high. So there is probably another cause for your dizziness and high blood pressure.

when wew say 120/80 we mean mmHg. If it reads 16.1/9.3 then it should be cmHg. So it is basically the same you do not need a comparing chart. But you should know that the wrist monitors, easy to use though may be, they are not the most reliable

I have recently (4 days ago) begun medication for postpartum hypertension. I have a home automatic blood pressure machine. The last several times I have taken it, I took it twice in a row, and got different numbers from the first time, BUT the second number is pretty consistent. My numbers have been
:
1. 119/99, then 123/83 (Yesterday morning)
2. 136/90, then 123/83 (Yesterday afternoon)
3. 130/96, then 123/86 (Yesterday evening)
4. 130/89, then 121/90, then 116/81 (This morning)
So do I pay attention more to the first, or subsequent readings?
The two trials are just a few minutes apart.
Thanks!
Well, let’s make sure we’re doing this right. First off, a machine is not accurate as the regular ones that doctors use. So, to minimize error, I recommend you do it 3 times and get the average. Also keep your arm out perpendicular to your body. Remember how old movie zombies look like with their arms out? That arm position. That height is optimal for reading blood pressure. And make sure you always use the left arm, it’s a little more accurate.

My mom takes meds for blood pressure. Right now she feels weak, the blood pressure machine wont respond to her arm because it may be too low. I heard salt brings up low blood pressure.
What foods can I give her to make her feel better asap.
Thank you!
well, i would ring you dr or gp and ask them what to do (: the machine may just be faulty and it might not be due to her at all, in which case you could end up getting her blood pressure too high xP
if not, google foods that bring the blood pressure up ?
if salt does the trick, maybe a salty salad or something?

Pls suggest a good Wrist Type Blood Pressure Monitor, which is good and reliable, shows proper reading and moderately priced.
My doctor does not recommend the wrist type BP monitors at all (neither does my Dad’s doc). They give inaccurate and inconsistent readings. Get a Walgreen’s brand automatic cuff monitor. They work very well and are moderately priced. If you insist on getting a wrist one, then calibrate it at your doctor’s office. The best advantage to the wrist monitor is that the cuff fits virtually everybody including obese people as well as easier to get on one handed.
